Could I live in a hut?

Millions around the world live in mud slum huts. Many are happy. (If you want to understand this, I cannot more highly recommend the autobiography/novel Shantaram.)

I understand I can’t really just live in a hut without also changing a million other things: what I’m doing, my commitments to family, friends, work, and so on.

But it helps me look at the world when I imagine “can I live in a hut?” Or “could I be a refugee from a war or natural disaster?”

These things suck but, you know what? Humans have lived with less for most of history and made art, music, written treatises on natural law, and ate healthier food than I do.

Maybe I can live in a hut in my mind.
